Type Locality and Naming

The type section is at Jiuxi 30 km northwest of Taoyuan City, Hunan. The Jiuxi Fm was named by Liu Yiren (1973), and was published by Central-South Compiling Group for Regional Stratigraphic Scale (1974).

Synonym: (九溪组)


Lithology and Thickness

It is represented by yellowish green and grayish green shale intercalated with variegated limestone lenses in the lower part. In the type area, the Jiuxi Fm is 328 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests conformably on the dolomitic limestone at the top of the Madaoyu Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the limestone at the bottom of the Baota Fm (Pagoda Fm)

Regional extent

The Jiuxi Fm is distributed in Wuling Hill, northwestern Hunan.

Fossils

This stratigraphic unit includes six graptolite zones, in ascending order, D. (Expansograptus) hirundo zone, Undul. austrodentatus zone, P. tentacutatus zone, Nichol. fasciculatus zone, G. hincksii zone and Pseudazygograptus zone.
